very cute about a family who has a real, talking, skeleton. It is the first in a cozy mystery series and the book is about how the skeleton came into the family.

A Skeleton in the Family A Family Skeleton Mystery Leigh Perry Books Reviews

I read about 20 pages and was getting a little antsy about the book. Just on the fence about whether to continue or ditch it. So glad I stuck with it. This ended up being a really good book. I think that this being the first of a proposed series, there was some more detailed set up for the story line. It all worked out as now I feel like I know the characters. This book balances humor and seriousness. While many of the dialogs were humorous (stands to reason between a skeleton and a live person), this story had a logical and well thought out plot. I can see a lot coming in the follow-on books in this series. There's opportunity for a lot of humor with the new situation in the family. No spoilers here. There's also characters introduced here that I'm sure will provide the required tension in the next book... and some odd, but perfectly reasonable characters to enjoy. Can't wait for next installment.
I loved this book! I want a Sid too! The pace of the book was good and there was no lulls in the beginning or middle like most books. What I liked about the books was the conversations between Georgia and Sid. I could feel their connection. The author did a great job. And I loved how the author used bone words as cuss words. Several parts of the book had me laughing and that's a plus in my book! lol. I never guessed who the killer was cause he was not a huge part of the book, only was introduced to him one time in the book and in the end he was the killer. That was a bummer in the end. I would of liked more detail of the killer or the killer be more involved with the main characters. Also, the college life and academia words used in the book was hard to understand at first if you never been to collage. But, that does not discourage me from reading more of this series. I love Georgia, Madison and Sid! I will be reading the next book.
This is the first in a series by Leigh Perry. I'm not sure if it can be called a cozy, but it is a light mystery, if such a category exists.

Georgia Thackery is an adjunct college professor, single mother of a teen daughter, and has just moved back to her parents' house while they are on sabbatical out of the country. Also living in her parents' house is Georgia's best friend, Sid, who happens to be a skeleton. Yes, a skeleton, a living, breathing (well, no, he doesn't need to breathe) skeleton who inhabits the attic and sometimes the living room armoire when he needs to eavesdrop. Sid once saved Georgia when she was a child, and has lived with her family ever since. Georgia's sister does not acknowledge Sid. Madison, Georgia's daughter, is unaware he exists.

Sometimes, Sid can convince Georgia to take him on outings. Usually, he has to be in a zipper bag, but when an anime convention is in town, Georgia allows him to dress up and be out in public. It is while he is out that he sees a woman who triggers a memory that he can't place.

The story evolves into a search for what happened to cause Sid to become a skeleton found in a traveling carnival. Murder is in the mix, and the killer is still on the loose.

The book was an easy read, and the premise, while unusual, was rather clever. The series was recommended to me by a friend.
A five star debut...oh yeah! I truly want a Sid in my life! Not to mention a gal friend like Georgia...what am I chattering on about?

Well, Dr. Georgia Thackery, professional adjunct professor, and mother of one clever girl, Madison, returns to her family home (parents are on a sabbatical,)in Western Mass. Georgia has one sister, Dorothy, who owns a locksmithing company. Georgia is not the only adult in the house however, she has a long time friend (from age six,) named Sid who she relies upon. Sid has chosen to remain hidden from Madison due to the fact that he is a sentient skeleton. Yup, a skeleton that often lives in a closet...actually a favorite armoire in the living room, when he isn't resting in the attic, reading.

This story is a mystery about finding out 'Sid's' true identity. It quickly morphs into a murder mystery but is definitely compelling reading. Who is Sid? Where did he come from? What was the cause of his death? Why, oh why, does a local nearby college professor seem 'familiar' to him? Why is the familiar professor killed? And, will Sid become a tasty treat for an Akita dog?

These queries and more and excellently researched and resolved in this action packed and laugh filled novel. I found myself unable to put this novel down and it followed me about the house while cooking and cleaning.

We learn how Sid comes home to live with Georgia's family. I'm not going to spoil the plot as this character is completely credible and you even forget that he is not among the living due to well timed quips that had me laughing out loud. Puns, one-liners, worthy of past famous comedians such as Jack Benny make you think up ones for yourself! I adore humor in books, such as in author Jeff Cohens, and this novel won me over.

Grab a travel cup filled with your favorite beverage and sit back to enjoy a wonderful new series!
