I keep thinking I'm going to get to that 4 star level, but again, I'm left really unsure of this read. I'm not even sure what a review can offer at this point, either you are committed to the series or you aren't. It's worth the read, it is good, but I'm really conflicted over a lot of aspects. Dark....yes. Definitely very dark, but to say 'dark romance with disturbing scenes' isn't quite accurate for me. I get what 'non-consensual' means, but don't sugar coat it; this book should come with the disclaimer of RAPE...over and over RAPE. With that said, book three was a little more organized for me than #2. It was a bit easier to get back into the story line and figure out who’s who. I’m not sure what else they can do to Alex, I’m not sure how she is still alive. Suspended disbelief. That’s all I can think. I just can’t help but feel like this whole story would have been just as good, if not better, with a few less violent scenes and a bit more on how it is Alex is able to endure all this. According to my calculations, she should have bled to death by now. I never could get a handle on why it is she needs Rafe to hurt her. The stuff with Zach in book one was horrid, but how that need is acquired and how it is transferred to Rafe required a stronger connection for me to move forward with the love angle. I’m also struggling with how many times Rafe has lost his memory. 2 or 3 or more? Jax hints that it was a regular occurrence because of concussions? That makes sense, but now I have to go back and try to insert that into the history of the story. Again, I’m working hard as a reader because I feel like this series is on the edge of being great. And then Rafe abandons her. This time very intentionally. It just doesn’t make sense to me. If anything, he should be running back to her. And WTF was all that with Nikki? The whole thing with her having Rafe’s son, and fling with Jax (who is gay?) and then getting kidnapped and killed? Again, jumbled, disconnected, but for some reason, I just keep reading. On to book 4.

There is a love story here but definitely no romance. It's seriously VERY dark. The main female character is amazingly strong to live through every twisted dark thing the author created. The male main character isn't as strong but is understandably twisted. Warning Contains scenes of male and female rape, sex trafficking, and torture. Never a dull moment in this book and no forgetting this book. If you can stand the darkness , give this series a try. Start with the first in the series or you get lost. The waiting between books was excruciating but at least they're all out now! Happy reading my fellow bookworms!
There's not too many books that I can devour in one day but I haven't been able to read ANYTHING since I discovered the Condemned series. Holy mother of God, I am in lust with Rafe and wish he were my tormentor, lover and protector.

Pardon me while I dive into Vagrant and count down the days until Deviant is released. Only eight more days but who is counting. *me*
Omg this book was so worth the wait. It continues Alex and Rafe's story from Rampant and things just get even crazier in Fervent. Gemma James is the queen of wickedness, this story has been one thrill ride filled with twists and turns u couldn't even imagine and it just keeps getting better. if u have read Anything by gemma u know she can take u to dark places, smack u around with her crazy, make u like it and beg for more. Alex and Rafe's continuing story will draw you in and have u on the edge of your seat. I can't wait to read Vagrant.
But it remains a frustrating read. We are being parsed a book - no doubt for economic reasons. There was more action and movement than the last installment, but it was just a piece of a story. And sadly, because this isn't an amazing book, 6 months between installments meant I forgot a lot about the first 2 books, so I was lost at times. I guess that is telling about the series as a whole....
No disappointment here ... well to the very last line of the book ... when Gemma did what she does best ... leaves you hanging and begging for more. The ultimate thing I enjoy so much about Gemma's writing style is that she can capture you quickly, keep you interested, and leave you begging for more. I'm anxious to see how she will end Rafe and Alex's story. How much more can these two suffer and still survive? Will their love survive or will there broken, break them? Will their darkness consume them and leave them so far apart from each other they can never make it back to being one?
I'm so loving this series. I believe it will stay with me for a long time. Gemma has braved writing about sex trafficking, which is a huge tragedy in this world. She's brave enough to create a fictional story about something that is far too real, including the after math of the disaster that it is. Will Rafe and Alex become the couple they do much deserve to be, in peace, normalcy? Guess I have to keep reading.
I think this is the best book of the series so far. Alex and Rafe have a new enemy holding them captive and there's no denying how far each of them will go to protect the other, how much it hurts to see the other one harmed. The tormenters here are pretty sadistic and most surprising is Jax's role in this volume. I really admired both Rafe and Alex's strength in this one. Rafe is still conflicted about this situation he has landed in because there continue to be gaps in his memory and he's at least certain that he cares for Alex and needs to protect her.

Things are definitely not what they seem and all the characters are tied together in some way. Everyone has some kind of obstacle or issue to tackle and trusting others doesn't come easy in the process. After everything Alex and Rafe have been through, I keep hoping they will finally make it out of this mess and have time to just be together. Apparently, that's not the case. And with the way Fervent ended, they are not out of the woods yet.
