I've been trying to post a more detailed review for this book, but it won't go through. I don't get why. I purchased it here on Amazon just a few days ago. Maybe because I listed a couple spoilers?? I put in big bold letters at the top that there were spoilers, to warn everyone. Well, I'll just keep this simple and short then.....Tiffanie DeBartolo is a very talented author. She created a story here that was vivid in my imagination and that kept me gripped throughout. (Though there were parts that were a bit too verbose for me, but that was minor.) I loved Paul. So much. (And I really liked Loring. He was a good guy and friend. Too good.) In a nutshell what ended up ruining this book for me, was Eliza. She meant well I guess, but she did NOT do well. The choices she made were stupid, selfish, ridiculous, and/or cruel. I don't care that she had a real phobia. To nearly destroy a love so deep and hurt someone the way she did because of it, was inexcusable in my book.
It's not a common thing for me to read a well written book with a story that emotionally moved me as much as this one did, yet in the end I just couldn't bring myself to like it, no matter how much I wish I had. And all because of the choices and actions of one Eliza Caelum. And one more thing I just have to add.... in my opinion, she didn't apologize and make amends for any of it anywhere near the way she should've- the way Paul deserved.

I just absolutely loved this book. Like everything about it. I cant even begin to tell you why. Like it just had that something that I can't pinpoint but it had it. It made me want to keep reading. Like why do I have to work because I want to read. Oh friends you want me to come over...Ugh I have to go but I want to read syndrome. But yet I can't really say why. I mean of course the writing was on point.
You just felt what the author was trying to convey. Did I want Kill A Journalist? You betcha. Oh Eliza Oh Eliza I loved you and then I wanted to shake you girl. I get it, you did what you had to do but it was so wrong. So so so wrong.
Anywhoo I am not saying anything more except I really loved Paul and how could you not just love Loring...what a good guy and ultimately I did love my misguided Eliza. Great must read book.
This was my book groups April read and was also another Author I had never read before.
This was one of those books that I didn't love it but I didn't hate it. It moved very slow and my biggest hang up, the ending killed me. There was so much I would have cut out of this book for more of an in depth ending. You'll see, the ending was probably one of the better parts of the book. Some parts moved faster than others and of course the parts that moved fast deserved more love and attention. The story line is developed and the plot is not one I've read before. I started out thinking I wasn't going to like Paul's character, he was the one I ended up wanting to hold and love. The romance was most definitely on the tamer side and would probably rate it a PG-13 if you're not one to read the more erotic tales.
If you're looking for a long, in depth story line regarding a rock band and the lead singers love life, minus the x-rated factors, you might enjoy this story more than I.
I took my time reading this book. I had heard so much about it for so long that I didn’t want to start it because I didn’t want it to end. Then when I started it I took my time. I savored it. I read Tiffanie’s “God Shaped Hole” and was sullen and depressed and needed to read more by her to get on with my life. That may not make sense to most.
I absolutely positively loved this story. Everything about it. Even when I hated it and wanted to throw my kindle out the window I loved it. I finished it in the middle of the night and immediately went online to buy a paperback copy. I haven’t purchased a paperback copy in I have no idea how long.
This book really rocked me and broke my heart then put it back together. The writing is prose like and the lyrics are moving. I have a love for both music and books and this story was the best of both!
Paul is my favorite book boyfriend of all time. Sorry, guys.
It is absolutely not necessary, but highly encouraged, to read God Shaped Hole prior to How to Kill a Rock Star as there are a few if-you-blink-you-may-miss-it references that made my heart smile. I recommend going in blind with this one. HTKARS evokes so many feelings and emotions that I had to take a few days to let the story really resonate. Even as I write this review, I type something out, then go back and delete it because my feelings are still all over the place. And I mean that in the best way possible. I won’t recap the story, but will rather share my thoughts. I had a love/hate relationship with Eliza. I empathized with her. I rooted for her. There were several times I wanted to reach through the pages, smack her upside the head and yell “What were you thinking?” Then, there was Paul. I loved his quirkiness and humor. I loved his passion. I even loved his overuse of the GD word. Individually, they were not perfect. Not by a long shot. But, they seemed pretty perfect for each other. I took away some important messages from this book. It is important to do what you love, but not at the expense of losing the love for what you do. Honesty and communication are crucial, without them even the strongest of relationships will suffer. Do not let fear overcome you. Eliza and Paul’s story shattered my heart in pieces, but by the end, the pieces were been picked up and are somewhat back together. It’s worth it. Over and out.
